Making sure they are cleansing properly, exfoliating weekly, hydrating, protecting and maintaining. For men, this is a whole other world. Instead of: Splashing with water or using bar soap in the morning or at night

Holy smokes … I recently realized that I look younger now than when I started working as Blume Skin & Body’s controller in 2015.  I’m no spring chicken, and this is no mean feat!

I have partaken in many of the treatments we offer, and it’s very hard to pick a favorite. If you pressed me it would be Ultherapy. My neck and jowls are aging faster than the rest of my face. Ultherapy is targeted ultrasound which creates a thermal injury to the tissue and forces the body to rebuild collagen and elastin. Ultherapy is the only FDA approved non-surgical method for lifting the skin on the face, neck and chest. Ultherapy is a single treatment and lasts, at my age, about 2 years.

Certainly, one treatment I had little confidence would work has turned out to be my favorite for the body.  Sandra suggested it when I complained of getting wrinkles in my décolletage.  The treatment?  Sculptra injections in the chest once a month for three months, then maintenance as needed.  Sculptra builds collagen and is longer-lasting than many injections.  It worked!  A v-neckline is more flattering to me than other necklines, and I’m very pleased that I have not had to revamp my wardrobe to work around an unsightly décolletage.

I also take the recommended Nutrafol vitamins, so that may be contributing to the longevity of regrowth.  My hair-dresser noticed and recently commented that my hair actually seemed to be getting thicker.  Remember the old ads?  Only her hair dresser knows for sure … she and anyone reading this blog!

However, if you are between the ages of 25-75, you are most likely a candidate. After scheduling your appointment, you won’t need to do anything else. This procedure doesn’t make you sun sensitive, so you can keep using your retinols and it doesn’t use needles, so you don’t need to stop taking fish oils. We, at Blume Skin & Body, are concerned with patient comfort and we may recommend an over-the-counter or prescribed medication before the treatment. We also offer Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas), which is similar to what is used at the dentist office for pain management, to help relax and calm you.

At Blume Skin & Body your treatment is very easy and straightforward. In your treatment room the area(s) to be treated will be cleansed and a topical numbing cream will be applied. You will sit in a darkened room with calm music playing for about 20 minutes relaxing. The numbing cream helps you feel less of the warmth coming from the handpiece. After the numbing cream is removed, the technician will apply ultrasound gel to the first area to be treated and place the smooth treatment applicator against your skin. They will use the ultrasound imaging to see deep within your skin and find the optimal placement of the energy. You will feel tiny amounts of energy, which may feel warm, this indicates that the collagen-building process has been started. This sensation only lasts while the energy is being delivered.

Depending on the area(s) being treated the entire appointment takes from 1 to 2 hours. After you are done you are rewarded with a snack and apple juice. We find that this helps with elevating the blood sugar and is overall really helpful for patient comfort. After your treatment you can return to normal activities without any restrictions. Any redness you may have will disappear within a few hours. We apply Colorescience All Calm SPF50, which greatly reduces any redness and even though you aren’t sun sensitive is a great sun protectant. Any slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to the touch will be mild and temporary.

The pricing is determined based on the area(s) being treated. However, you don’t want to make your decision based on price. Always look at the experience of the technician, the practice reputation and online reviews. How many treatments does it take?

Depending on the patient’s age, the treatment lasts for 2 – 5 years. However, some patients maybe benefit from treatments more often due to their skin laxity and their body’s response to the collagen building process. Because we are always aging, future touch ups can help provide more control over the aging process, which varies by person.

How is Ultherapy different from laser treatments?

Ultherapy uses energy which allows it to bypass the skin’s surface and address laxity issues at a deeper level. The ultrasound delivery stimulates collagen production, lifting tissue over two to three months. Typically, laser treatments only treat superficial skin issues and are not FDA-cleared to lift skin.

Does it hurt?
