At Blume Skin & Body, we’re always on the cutting edge of skincare technology, bringing you the best treatments for glowing, youthful skin. One of our favorites? MOXI™, a gentle yet effective laser treatment designed for anyone looking to refresh their complexion and maintain their skin’s youthful radiance.

What Is MOXI™?

MOXI™ is a revolutionary, non-ablative laser treatment that works to enhance your skin’s tone and texture. Perfect for people of all skin types and ages, MOXI™ is ideal for those who want to prevent or address early signs of aging. It’s often called the “prejuvenation” laser because it’s perfect for maintaining youthful skin before major damage occurs.

Whether you’re dealing with uneven pigmentation, sun damage, or rough texture, MOXI™ delivers noticeable results with little to no downtime. It’s a great option for those who are new to laser treatments or for anyone looking to keep their skin in top shape year-round.

Key Benefits of MOXI™

 1. Gentle and Effective: MOXI™ uses low-level energy to target the top layers of the skin, making it a comfortable treatment with minimal side effects.
 2. Quick Recovery: With little downtime, most patients can resume daily activities the same day. MOXI™ is even nicknamed the “lunchtime laser” because the treatment is so quick and convenient.
 3. Customizable: Whether you want a light touch-up or a more intensive session, MOXI™ treatments can be tailored to your specific skin needs.
 4. Preventative Care: MOXI™ is perfect for those in their 20s and 30s who want to stay ahead of aging and maintain a fresh, radiant appearance.
 5. Safe for All Skin Types: The laser’s precision makes it suitable for all skin tones and types, providing a universally safe option for skin rejuvenation.

What Can MOXI™ Treat?

MOXI™ is a versatile treatment that addresses a variety of skin concerns, including:

 • Uneven skin tone
 • Sun damage and pigmentation
 • Fine lines and wrinkles
 • Enlarged pores
 • Rough or dull skin texture

It’s also an excellent maintenance treatment for those who’ve undergone more intensive procedures, like HALO™ or BBL™.

What to Expect During and After Your MOXI™ Treatment

The MOXI™ treatment process is straightforward and easy:

 1. Your skin will be cleansed, and a numbing cream may be applied to ensure your comfort.
 2. The MOXI™ laser will deliver targeted energy to your skin, promoting cell turnover and collagen production.
 3. The treatment typically takes 15–30 minutes, making it perfect for busy schedules.

After the procedure, you might notice mild redness or a sandpaper-like texture for a day or two. However, these effects are minimal and temporary. You’ll begin to see improvements in your skin within a few days, with continued results as your skin naturally regenerates.

How Many Treatments Will You Need?

For optimal results, most patients benefit from a series of 3–4 MOXI™ sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. However, even a single session can leave your skin feeling refreshed and glowing.

As we age, our skin naturally loses volume and elasticity, leading to the formation of wrinkles and fine lines. Fortunately, modern aesthetic medicine offers innovative solutions to combat these signs of aging. One such solution that has gained immense popularity is Juvederm, a collection of injectable dermal fillers designed to restore volume, smooth wrinkles, and enhance facial contours.

Understanding Juvederm

Juvederm fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in our bodies that helps keep skin hydrated and volumized. As we age, our natural hyaluronic acid production decreases, leading to a loss of facial volume and the formation of wrinkles.

How Juvederm Works

When injected into specific areas of the face, Juvederm fillers attract water molecules, which helps to plump up the skin and smooth out wrinkles. The result is a more youthful, refreshed appearance that can last for several months to over a year, depending on the specific product used.

Types of Juvederm Fillers

Juvederm offers a range of products, each designed to target specific areas and concerns:

Juvederm Ultra XC

 • Ideal for: Plumping lips and smoothing smile lines
 • Duration: Up to 1 year

Juvederm Voluma XC

 • Ideal for: Restoring volume to cheeks and midface
 • Duration: Up to 2 years

Juvederm Volbella XC

 • Ideal for: Subtle lip enhancement and smoothing vertical lip lines
 • Duration: Up to 1 year

The Treatment Process

Consultation

Before any treatment, a consultation with a qualified healthcare provider is essential. During this consultation, your provider will assess your facial anatomy, discuss your aesthetic goals, and recommend the most appropriate Juvederm product(s) for your needs.

The Procedure

Juvederm treatments are typically quick, often taking only 15-30 60 minutes. The area to be treated is cleansed, and the filler is injected using a fine needle. Most Juvederm products contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to minimize discomfort during the procedure.

Recovery and Results

One of the benefits of Juvederm treatments is that there’s minimal downtime. Most patients can return to their normal activities immediately after the procedure. Results are visible immediately, with full effects typically seen within two weeks.

Aftercare and Maintenance

To maximize the results of your Juvederm treatment:

 • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours after the procedure
 • Stay hydrated to enhance the effects of the hyaluronic acid
 • Protect your skin from sun exposure
 • Schedule touch-up treatments as recommended by your provider

Is Juvederm Right for You?

Juvederm treatments can be an excellent option for those looking to address signs of aging without surgery. However, it’s important to have realistic expectations and understand that while the results can be significant, they are not permanent.

As with any cosmetic procedure, it’s crucial to consult with a board-certified professional to determine if Juvederm is the right choice for you, so make sure to schedule a consultation with us. We can assess your individual needs and develop a personalized treatment plan to help you achieve your aesthetic goals.

Remember, true beauty comes from within, but there’s nothing wrong with wanting to look as young as you feel. With Juvederm, you can enhance your natural beauty and face the world with renewed confidence.

As the intense Arizona summer fades, many residents find themselves looking for effective ways to repair and rejuvenate sun-damaged skin. Laser skin resurfacing has become the go-to solution for those seeking to restore their skin’s youthful glow and combat the effects of prolonged sun exposure. At Blume Skin & Body, we specialize in personalized laser treatments designed to address each patient’s unique skincare needs and goals.

What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is a cutting-edge, non-surgical cosmetic procedure that revitalizes the skin by promoting a smoother texture and a more radiant complexion. Using advanced laser technology, targeted laser energy creates microchannels in the skin’s surface, stimulating the body’s natural healing process and boosting collagen production. Collagen and elastin are essential proteins that give your skin its firmness, elasticity, and youthful volume. This process also generates heat in the deeper layers of the skin, remodeling tissues from the inside out.

As new collagen forms and healthy skin resurfaces, the appearance of rough textures, fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and skin laxity improves significantly. While these conditions naturally develop with age, they are often accelerated by factors like excessive sun exposure—making laser resurfacing an ideal treatment for restoring your skin’s vitality.

At Blume Skin & Body, we offer state-of-the-art laser technologies, including the M-22 ResurFX™ laser by Lumenis® and the Sciton MOXI®. Our Laser Duo and Laser Trio treatments combine these non-ablative lasers with photofacial technology, enhancing the overall results and delivering radiant, youthful skin.

Who is an Ideal Candidate for Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is a versatile treatment suitable for most individuals concerned with signs of aging or sun damage on the face and body. However, those with sensitive skin types or a history of scarring should consult with our specialists to determine if this treatment is right for them. A personalized consultation with our experienced medical professionals and skincare experts will help identify the best laser treatment tailored to your needs.

The Laser Skin Resurfacing Process

Your journey to rejuvenated skin begins with an in-depth consultation where one of our expert laser technicians will assess your skin and discuss your cosmetic goals. This evaluation helps us determine the most effective laser technology for your personalized treatment plan. The procedure itself is quick and convenient, typically lasting between 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area and the specific conditions being addressed.

Recovery and Aftercare Tips for Optimal Results

Post-treatment, patients may experience mild redness, swelling, and sensitivity, which usually subside within a few days. To ensure a smooth recovery and enhance the effectiveness of your treatment, we recommend:

 • Avoiding direct sun exposure: Shield your skin from the sun, especially during the healing process.
 • Moisturizing regularly: Keep your skin hydrated to support healing.
 • Using gentle skincare products: Avoid harsh exfoliants and opt for soothing, hydrating products.

Results from laser skin resurfacing will gradually appear as collagen develops, with improvements continuing for several months.

How to Maintain Your Results

To prolong the benefits of your laser resurfacing treatment, consider these simple steps:

 • Daily use of broad-spectrum sunscreen: Protect your skin from future damage with a high-quality SPF.
 • Consistent moisturizing: Keep your skin hydrated to maintain its youthful texture and appearance.
 • Incorporating antioxidant-rich skincare products: These can help to fight free radicals and support skin health.
 • Scheduling follow-up treatments: Periodic laser sessions or complementary procedures can help maintain your results over time.

Ready to Rejuvenate Your Skin? Schedule a Consultation Today!

The Arizona sun may have taken a toll on your skin, but you can restore your healthy, beautiful complexion with our advanced laser resurfacing treatments. There are more options than ever for anti-aging and skin rejuvenation. Although plastic surgery has traditionally been best for restoring a youthful look, many minimally-invasive alternatives are now available. If you’re considering a facelift, then you should know that the thread lift may be a great option instead. Here’s what to know about these two facial rejuvenation options and how you can benefit from our experts at Blume Skin & Body.

What Is A Thread Lift?

A thread lift is a type of anti-aging treatment that involves inserting specialized threads in the face and lifting them and the skin to a more upright position. There, the threads dissolve over time and stimulate new collagen production. The goal is to give you a younger-looking appearance without fine lines and mild sagging. Thread lift procedures are less invasive compared to traditional facelift surgery and focus on areas of the face prone to wrinkles. A thread lift can last for a couple of years with the right anti-aging regimen.

What Is A Facelift?

A facelift or rhytidectomy is a cosmetic surgery under anesthesia designed to restore sagging skin to a tighter, younger-looking appearance. A facelift is one of the most common forms of plastic surgery. It involves surgical removal of excess, sagging skin around the cheeks and jawline. It also lifts and restores the sagging tissues under the skin like muscles and fat pads. It requires up to 6 months to fully recover but it can produce results that last 5-10years.

The Difference Between the Facelift and Thread Lifts

Whereas a facelift involves surgery with general anesthesia, a thread lift uses less invasive medical-grade threading to restore the skin to a smoother, more upright position. While the thread lift comes with less downtime, it’s only effective for patients who have mild to moderate signs of aging. For more substantial sagging and excess skin, a facelift might be required.

Do I Need a Facelift or a Thread Lift?

If you have moderate aging signs and want to avoid surgery, then thread lifts can be an effective option. Our team can even help you put together a complete anti-aging regimen to support your results and put off the need for a facelift for years to come.

The thread lift is an exciting new option for rejuvenating your look. To learn more about our cosmetic treatments and ways to achieve younger, healthier skin, contact our Scottsdale office by calling or filling out our online form.

The post Who is a Good Candidate for Ultherapy? appeared first on BLUME.

]]>
As your skin ages, wrinkles and sagginess are all too common and this causes many people to feel self-conscious about their appearance. Ultherapy is a non-invasive facelift alternative that can help many people restore their youthful appearance with natural rejuvenation. Rather than using incisions and invasive techniques, Ultherapy stimulates the skin to heal and rejuvenate itself with long-lasting results. Whether seeking the treatment on its own or combining its benefits with other non-invasive procedures, Ultherapy is a staple in many people’s skincare rejuvenation routines.

What is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy is an FDA-approved treatment that stimulates the production of new collagen and remodels preexisting collagen. It does this by penetrating all three layers of skin with focused ultrasonic energy that heats the deep tissues and triggers your body’s healing response. The regeneration of collagen creates a lifting and tightening effect to improve sagging skin and wrinkles. This offers long-lasting effects lasting anywhere from a year to three years.

Within six months of your treatment, your skin will have increased collagen production. Most people will not need to return for another treatment for at least a year or even three years! You can maintain your youthful, rejuvenated appearance by wearing sunscreen and moisturizing your skin with quality skincare products.

The Ideal Candidate for Ultherapy

Anyone looking for a non-invasive treatment for sagging skin, wrinkles, and volume loss can enjoy Ultherapy! Ultherapy is best for patients in their 40s – 60’s who have decent skin quality with skin laxity or sagging but there is no upper age limit for receiving the treatment. Older patients may have more damage to correct but they can still benefit from Ultherapy, although results will vary. It’s ideal to begin early since you will not be able to make as much collagen and elastin on your own as you age. If you need a dramatic quick result, try the 3D Collagen Boost which utilizes three collagen building treatments. Radiesse is the only structural filler and biostimulator that gives a structural lift immediately, while stimulating the body’s natural collagen production.

Some of the patients we encounter are curious about their non-surgical options. Others have already undergone procedures like a facelift and want to touch up their results. Ultherapy is great for both types of treatment but it is important to remember that the effects of this treatment won’t be as immediate as those of surgery. Ultherapy stimulates natural collagen production which takes time but this gradual improvement is sometimes preferred since it creates natural-looking results. The natural stimulation of collagen production also means that there is no risk of an allergic or adverse reaction.

Schedule a Consultation

Ultherapy treatments will help you look younger and feel great. At Blume Skin & Body, we have certified advanced ultherapy technicians who have received extensive training to give you the best treatment with the best possible results. Schedule a consultation today by calling our office or filling out an online contact form.

BlumeSculpt Neo – New Treatment!

Blume Skin & Body is excited about our new treatment, the BlumeSculpt Neo – offering skin tightening, muscle toning, and cellulite reduction – in as little as one hour! Read on to find out more about this treatment with results that speak for themselves.

Who is the BlumeSculpt Neo for?

This treatment is great for everyone, especially those with skin laxity, or loose skin that is in need of tightening. Those with cellulite in their skin will also greatly benefit. Some examples of a great candidate could be someone who had a baby – whether recently or a while ago, or someone who lost some weight and is no experiencing sagging skin as a result. Or, those who have sagging skin simply due to the aging process. This treatment works at tightening the skin, toning muscles and re-building collagen – which everyone can use!

There are three main areas that can be treated with the BlumeSculpt Neo:

 • Abdomen
 • Glutes
 • Thighs

So, whether you are kick-starting your health journey, or looking to complete that last stretch to meet your body goals, the BlumeSculpt Neo will provide you with the results you’re looking for!

How Does the BlumeSculpt Neo work?

The BlumeSculpt Neo is broken down into two sections: Radio Frequency Skin Tightening and CoolTone.

The Radio Frequency Skin Tightening delivers heat energy into the skin, which stimulates collagen product and tightens the skin. The skin is heated to about 39 – 42 degrees Celsius.

The CoolTone treatment uses magnetic muscle stimulation to create muscle contractions. Over the 30 minute CoolTone session, the muscle work is equivalent to 20,000 sit ups or squats (depending on the area being treated).

What to Expect During and After the BlumeSculpt Neo

The BlumeSculpt Neo consists of 4 treatments total, done two times per week. The treatment series is complete in two weeks, and each session is 60 – 90 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

Patients report that the Radio Frequency portion of the treatment is relaxing, and feels a bit like a heated massage. The CoolTone causes two different sensations. First, is a knocking feeling, which releases lactic acid in the area to alleviate any soreness post-treatment. The second sensation is a muscle contraction, which patients find extremely tolerable and your body quickly adjusts to the sensation.

The treatment itself is quick, typically done in about an hour. After the treatment, you can go about your typical daily activities without restrictions, which means NO DOWNTIME! You can still work out and resume life as usual. Some patients may feel a bit of soreness afterwards, and some feel no soreness at all.

We encourage any patient doing the BlumeSculpt Neo to continue to eat healthy and stay active to help maintain the results. The results show immediately and can continue to improve over the next few weeks post-treatment as the Collagen production continues.

Benefits

This 3-in-1 treatment works to improve the appearance of saggy, loose skin and add definition and tone to muscles, while smoothing texture and reducing cellulite. The best part is, it’s quick, non-invasive, and includes no downtime. Sound too good to be true? Check out our before and after photos of this treatment done at Blume Skin & Body.

Get the Booty of Your Dreams Without the Downtime

Sometimes your booty just needs a pick me up! Many different variables can cause your booty to have dimpling or sagging such as gravity, aging, and weight changes.

Have you noticed your booty looking less round or having more dimples than you want? Are you working out but still not reaching your booty goals? Are you looking for a way to fix this but want to avoid surgery? Surgery can be scary, and due to health reasons, it isn’t an option for everyone. So why not a non-invasive BBL?

Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) has been a trend for a while now. When we think Brazilian Butt Lift, we think surgery to get a larger, rounder bottom, however, there are other solutions. At Blume Skin & Body, we have just introduced our Non-Invasive Brazilian Butt Lift with Radiesse to help tighten, lift, sculpt and perfect your booty!

What is a Non-Invasive Butt Lift?

A non-invasive BBL can address your concerns – whether they are hip dips, cellulite dimples, lifting, or shaping your behind. Non-invasive BBL’s are done with a filler called Radiesse. Radiesse is injected directly into the areas of concern, which makes it more accurate and more subtle than a surgical Brazilian Butt Lift. After the procedure you may experience some swelling, bruising, and tenderness, however, this procedure is quick enough to do on your lunch break and return to work without any complications or down time!

What is Radiesse?

The purpose of Radiesse is to improve skin texture, shape, lift, and contour. This filler works to stimulate collagen and elastin production deep within the skin layers. Radiesse is a biostimulator, which means that it helps your body produce more collagen overtime. This is beneficial because once the filler is eliminated from the body, the results will stick around. Depending on your metabolism, a Radiesse booty lift can last up to 2 years.

Collagen is the protein that gives the skin its structure and shape. Unlike hyaluronic acid-based fillers, Radiesse works to replace collagen and create a strong network of support with these fibers. Radiesse is made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a water-based gel. Over time, collagen fibers will begin to replace the microspheres as they are metabolized. This leaves behind a network of newly grown collagen fibers.

If you have already had a surgical Brazilian Butt Lift procedure and still have some dimples or unevenness, Radiesse can help with that, too.

Before and After Photos of Hip Dip Correction

bbl injection for hip dips front angle bbl injection for hip dips side angle 1 bbl injection for hip dips side angle 2 bbl injection for hip dips back angle

The Procedure

Typically, ten syringes of Radiesse are required (five per side). The Radiesse is then hyper-diluted, which means it is mixed with sodium chloride before being injected. (Hyperdiluted Radiesse is Radiesse that has been thinned out to make it more easily spread over a larger area or for areas where skin is thinner). Injecting this mixture into areas causes the body to produce new collagen and elastin, which leads firmer, smoother, and more full skin!

A cannula, which is a blunt-tipped needle is then used to inject the Radiesse into the patient’s bottom in the areas of concern. After the syringes are injected, we will then do a firm massage to distribute the product evenly. Overall, this treatment is extremely comfortable. Hyperdiluted Radiesse incorporates lidocaine which is a a numbing product to make the entire procedure painless. There’s essentially no downtime, but a possibility of light soreness and bruising at the injection site that should only last a few days.

Every treatment is different and tailored to meet the individual’s concerns, whether it be lifting the bottom, hip dips, cellulite, or filling out for a rounder shape!

In just a couple hours, you can have the tighter, lifted, and dimple-free booty that you always wanted! With no downtime there is no reason to put off getting the booty of your dreams.

What are Jowls?

Woman looking at her jowlsn

Jowls – the annoying sagging skin/ fat that hangs along the lower face and jawline. Why do we have them and what can we do about them? Jowls can be the result of many different factors, with age being the primary cause. However, several factors can cause jowls to develop faster, such as genetics, facial expressions, weight loss, sun exposure, smoking, and use of computers or phones. All of the factors listed above have a direct impact on the loss of collagen and elastin, which can contribute to a heavy looking facial shape. In this post, we will explore why jowls happen and how they can be treated, including with something as simple as a 30-minute toxin appointment.

With age, we lose collagen and elastin in the cheeks and around the jawline. Why are collagen and elastin important? Collagen is a protein that makes up the connective tissue in the body. Elastin is another type of connective tissue that helps with skin snap back. Think of connective tissue as the glue of the body.

Jowls can also be the result of genetics. Genetics can determine a lot of the physical changes we experience as we age, and the jowls are no exception. If either of your parents have jowls, it is likely that you will develop jowls.

Sun exposure, which is pretty much unavoidable in Arizona, can also be a contributing factor to jowl likelihood and severity. Sun damage accelerates the break down of collagen and elastin (Picture A). With the premature loss of connective tissue, the skin is more prone to sagging from the lack of facial tissue support. The best defense against the sun is to limit exposure, wear medical grade sunscreen and protective clothing.

Whether its age, lifestyle, or genetics, once our collagen and elastin supplies become compromised, so does the fat in our cheeks. Not only do we lose fat, but the fat pads that we do have slide down and forward, due to the loss of connective tissue (Picture B). With a decrease in facial tissue support, our skin becomes thinner and does not have the snap-back that it once had.

Now that we know the many contributing factors that cause jowls, what can we do about them? The muscle underneath the jowls is called the platysma. The platysma basically acts as a turtle neck starting at the jowls/jaw line and extends down to the collar bone (Picture C). As we age, the platysma and the muscle under the jowls (depressor anguli oris) stretches the skin down and out. This is sometimes referred to as “turkey neck” and is the result of the platysma contracting, creating bands (Picture D). Accentuated platysmal bands can also be the result of clenching or stress.

C: Platysma muscle

Platysma muscle

D: Before having platysmal bands treated vs.
two weeks after.

Before having platysmal bands treated vs.

For patients who have mild sagging of the jowls, toxin can be injected into the jowls and platysmal bands to help relax the muscle, which helps give the jowls a lift. If a patient has a history of clenching, it would be recommended to treat the masseter muscle, which can further help lift the jowls and enhance the jawline.

Once the toxin settles in, patients will notice the corners of their smile are slightly turned up, the chin no longer has an orange peel look and the jawline and neck appear sharper. Think of toxin as shapeware for your neck and jowls. If a patient has excess fat in the jowl/neck area, or moderate sagging, Kybella, Coolsculpting, or a skin tightening treatment may be the best place to start.

Summer is here which means there are so many summer traditions to unload! BBQ’s,
fireworks, camp fires, swimming everyday, sunshine and…. sunburns? Who can remember
growing up and getting at least 1 nasty sunburn each summer? I bet you raised your hand
huh? Let’s keep all our favorite summer traditions and scrap that last one shall we? Keep
reading to make this summer (and every day) carefree and sunburn free.

Sunscreen is Preventative Skincare

We all know the importance of sunscreen. It helps to fight against precancerous and
cancerous cells (skin cancer). Sunscreen helps to fight signs of aging, hyperpigmentation,
broken capillaries, the break down of collagen and so much more. I’m not here to act like your
mother and wave my finger and yell “MAKE SURE YOU PUT YOUR SUNSCREEN ON!”, (well
maybe a little). The truth is, any form of sun exposure equals to sun damage. Read that again.
Any form of sun exposure equals to sun damage. The UV rays are all around us, even when
we’re inside sitting next to a window. So making sure we are PROPERLY protected is incredibly
important. Let’s cover our bases.

What’s the Difference Between Chemical and Physical Sunscreen?

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor which is how the protection is measured. The
higher the SPF number the better the protection. This has been common place for years. A few
common ingredients found in higher SPF numbered sunscreens are avobenzone and parsol
1789. This is considered a chemical sunscreen. This was extremely popular in the 1990’s and
early 2000’s. The other type of sunscreen is physical sunscreen. These typically contain zinc
and/or titanium dioxide. These ingredients act as more of a shield towards the UV rays. Both
types of sunscreen will absorb the UV rays, however the physical sunscreen will reflect the UV
rays making it a more effective option.

4 easy ways to apply sunscreen

How to Apply SPF Correctly

Now that we have broken down the differences in sunscreens, let’s apply the right way!

1. The average person needs about an ounce (2 tbs) for a fully body application. Since
physical sunscreens contains more mineral based ingredients, the consistency will be
slightly more dense. But remember, the protection will be more thorough. This is important
in application! Making sure that you are properly covered is key.

2. Apply from head to toe. That’s right! Every square inch of your body needs to be covered in
order to be protected. We know the basics – face, neck, shoulders, arms, back, legs and
feet. But what about the places we commonly forget?
– EARS, BACK OF THE HANDS, FINGERS, UNDER THE CHIN, LIPS (spf chapstick),
STOMACH, UNDER THE BATHING SUIT AREAS, AND SCALP. If an area of the body is left
without sunscreen, there is an increased risk of sunburns and sun damage.

3. Let your sunscreen absorb for 15 minutes before going outside. Since a physical sunscreen
has better ingredients, why not apply and hit the road? There is a level of absorption that any
sunscreen has to do in order for it to be the most effective.
– Pro tip: apply you sunscreen nude (that way you won’t miss a spot), get dressed, then
pack for the day, and you’re ready to go!

4. As stated above, pick a sunscreen containing a high percentage of zinc and/or titanium dioxide. Just
like medical-grade skincare, it’s the ingredients in the product that does the work to get you the
results. Not saying that all other skincare products are “bad’, but when it comes to results, you
need to know the product is going to work for you and not against you. The same applies with
sunscreen. Chemical sunscreens aren’t ineffective, however physical sunscreens will provide
more protection based on its ingredients and ability to shield.

Don’t Forget

When you know you’re going to be outside for longer periods of time, make sure you reapply
your sunscreen every 2-3 hours to stay protected. And to take your protection a step further,
make sure you are wearing clothing that covers. Sun protective clothing (shirts and pants) are
extremely popular for swimming, hiking and gardening. Wide brimmed hats help to create a
larger spectrum of protection for your face, ears, shoulders, neck and chest. And don’t forget
about your eyes. Sun damage in the eyes is a thing! Invest in good quality sunglasses to
protect your eyes from the sun.

At Blume Skin and Body, we have a wide variety of sunscreen to keep you protected while you
walk the dog, go swimming, hike your favorite trail and even sitting at your desk at work next to
a window. The investment in proper sun protection is far less of an investment than going back
and forth to the dermatologist having countless biopsies and surgeries to fix what could have
been preventable.

April is Rosacea awareness month and we are going to breakdown Rosacea and some treatments and products that can help!

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea. What is it? Why does it happen? What is the best way to treat it? Unfortunately, rosacea affects an estimated 16 million Americans. It is chronic, but treatable and will worsen over time if it is left untreated. Fortunately, there are several avenues’ people can go to for relief. There are topical skin treatmentslaser treatmentsmicroneedling and lifestyle changes.

Rosacea (roh-ZAY-sha) is a common skin condition that causes visible blood vessels and redness in your face. It can also be combined with small, red, pus-filled bumps. It is common for the signs and symptoms to last several weeks to months and then disappear for a while. People who struggle with this condition also have a tendency to blush or flush more easily than other people. This redness is most commonly on the nose and cheeks, forehead and chin. However, it can spread to the ears, chest and back. According to the National Rosacea Society, “Studies have shown that over time the redness tends to become ruddier and more persistent, and visible blood vessels may appear. Left untreated, inflammatory bumps and pimples often develop, and in severe cases – particularly in men – the nose may grow swollen and bumpy from excess tissue.” There are several signs and symptoms of rosacea. The first category is diagnostic signs, persistent redness and skin thickening. The second category are major signs of rosacea, which are flushing, bumps and pimples, visible blood vessels and eye irritation. The third category is secondary signs and symptoms, which may appear with one or more of the diagnostic or major signs. These are burning or stinging sensations on the face, swelling or dryness.

How do You Treat Rosacea?

Treatment for rosacea varies from individual to individual. Blume Skin & Body has some tried and true ways to help with rosacea. The first is an IPL/BBL Photofacial treatment. The light energy delivered by this BBL treatment gently heats the upper layers of your skin, which stimulates your skin cells to regenerate. This treatment is tailored to match your skin type and desired results. The IPL/BBL encourages the growth of collagen to replace damaged skin and heal skin conditions. The conditions that may be helped with regular treatments are acne, rosacea, pigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles. How does the BBL/IPL laser affect Rosacea? It breaks up the vessels and building collagen. The PhotoFacial BBL/IPL is also a great treatment for chronic dry eye and obitual rosacea. It is important to note that each patient is different and will respond differently so it is important to receive a complimentary consultation with Blume Skin & Body before any treatment. The BBL/IPL laser will not cure rosacea, but the symptoms can be managed with consistent treatments. It is best to have a series of three to six treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. From there you can determine how often you need to return for maintenance treatments. Remember, rosacea is chronic and uncurable. It is best to find a maintenance plan that works for you and stick with it.

What Skincare Should be Used With Rosacea?

Finding a skin care routine is also an important part of managing rosacea. If you have rosacea, you should be using a mild or gentle cleanser twice a day. We really like the Gentle Foaming Cleanser from Epionce, the Gentle Cleanser from ZO Skin Health or the Wonder Falls from Valmont. These cleansers will gently cleanse the skin without any harsh irritants. Always use lukewarm water and blot your face dry. Never use a rough washcloth or pull or tug on your skin. If you have rosacea you should never use scrubs or any exfoliants. The next step in your routine would be a serum to help reduce the appearance of redness. Our favorites are the BioCream Firm from NeoCutis or Rozatrol from ZO Skin Health. Both of these products will help protect the skin and boost collagen production.
