At Reblume Spa we are proud to offer Light Therapy.

Light Therapy is the interaction of light, delivered through Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), to cause bio-stimulation on cell receptors.

Light therapy has treated a plethora of ailments over the millennia, dating back to the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. Today, light therapy treatments are more precise, focused around particular wavelengths to help doctors remedy everything from hair loss to wrinkles to back pain. While scientific studies have proven the effectiveness of light therapy for a wide range of disorders, few people actually know the potential of this age-old treatment.

Light therapy is a simple process in which a specific wavelength of light is projected onto the skin. The light causes chemical reactions in the target area, which excite cells to increase cellular performance that in turn can regrow hair, eliminate acne, and rejuvenate skin. The key to light therapy is the wavelength of light, as different colors (wavelengths) produce different chemical reactions within the cells.

Here are the four major types of light therapy and the benefits they offer.

Red light therapy

Increasing hair production. The effects of red light and hair growth were first studied in 1967 by a Hungarian scientist who discovered that red lasers could stimulate hair growth in mice. Now, red light is an FDA-approved treatment for men and women with thinning hair and patterned baldness. Studies have shown that red light when projected onto the scalp in 25-40 minute sessions can increase hair growth in men and women. Recommended treatment is 3 or 4 times a week for 12 months and then once a week for maintenance.

Improving skin quality. Dermatologists also rely on red light therapy to treat wrinkles, rosacea, scarring, and eczema. When red light is administered to the face two or three times a week, cells produce chemicals called cytokines, which then trigger the fibroblasts — collagen producing cells — that help heal the skin and plump problem areas removing wrinkles and fine lines. Recommended treatment is 2-3 times a week for 3-6 weeks and then once every couple of weeks as maintenance.

Blue light therapy

Eliminating acne. Many patients have turned to blue light therapy to treat mild-to-moderate acne. Blue light has been shown to kill propionibacterium acne’s, reducing the occurrence of whiteheads and blemishes in those suffering from these types of acne. Unlike common topical treatments, like benzoyl peroxide, blue light does not dry out skin, making it a gentler acne solution. Making life easier for patients, the FDA has cleared some blue light acne treatments. Recommended treatment is  1 or 2 times a month to prevent acne. And 2 or 3 times a week to clear up a breakout of acne.

Green light therapy

Preventing signs of aging. For anti-aging benefits, look no further than green light therapy. Green light has been shown to correct hyper-pigmentation, reduce freckling, and eliminate sun spots. The light targets the cells that produce melanin, eventually stopping these cells from creating excessive pigments and effectively removing age spots and sun damage. Recommended treatment is 2-3 times a week for 3-6 weeks. Then 2 or three times a month to maintain the effects.

Yellow light therapy

Rejuvenating skin. Yellow or amber light therapy offers similar skin benefits as green and red light therapy. At the right dosage, it can reduce skin redness, treat rosacea, decrease the appearance of blood vessels, and eliminate ultraviolet radiation damage. Recommended treatment is time1 to 2 times a week for 3-6 weeks to reduce redness and then 1 to 3 times a month to maintain the effectiveness of the treatments.

The main benefit of light therapy is a reduction in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, freckles, brown spots, scars and the amount of redness. It is also effective for reducing pain in Muscles and Joints. In addition, the treatments are pain free with no downtime at all.
